The members of the Giuseppe Mascarello family have been growing vines for more than a century and a half - 1st as farmers running the Manescotto Estate in the village of La Morra for the Marchesa Giulia Colbert Faletti di Barolo and then on their own property since the late 1800s. Since time immemorial, Nebbiolo has been the most highly prized vine and the wine growing emblem of Alba & the Langa. When it is matched with a great wine-making terroir, it is capable of expressing itself at sublime levels in the wine's remarkable personality, intense bouquet, exquisitely smooth tannins, and outstanding possibilities of evolution and resistance over time. The single vineyard Monprivato Barolo, from the Monprivato cru since the 1920s, has become Giuseppe Mascarello's flagship wine since the 1920s as well. Elegant & gloriously fragrant, this radiant Barolo reveals classic Nebbiolo grape aromas of dried herbs, crushed rose petals, wild berry notes, & forest floor characters with subtle hints of new leather. On the mouth, it displays a heavenly palate with great focus in offering up opulent red cherry, spiced cranberry, wild strawberry, & licorice alongside a firmly refined tannin structure. Its bright acidity provides further balance, energy, & tension. Drink this from 2022 to 2033 with Mediterranean Lamb Dishes, Game, and Roast Goose with Foie Gras.
On the nose, this exquisite wine reveals good fruit, spice, & dried floral characters. Still youthful on the palate but hinting at future greatness with prevalent black currant notes and added layers of dark berry fruit, precise & focused tannins as well as a vibrant acidity. There is a sense of purity, elegance, & intensity that wine afficionados have come to expect from a Monprivato that always stuns with its depth of complexity. Enjoy this exquisite wine between 2022 and 2033.
