Why We Love This Wine
Founded in 1930, Baron Philippe de Rothschild is based in Bordeaux. In addition to their Medoc vineyards, they also count many plots in California & Chile (where Escudo Rojo originates) where they combine the best of traditional personal experience and the best of advanced scientific wine making practices to transform the gifts of nature into works of art. Escudo Rojo is the Spanish translation of the German "Rote Schild" which means "Red Shield". A deliciously crisp Sauvignon Blanc with sliced green apple & mango fruit hints. On its medium-bodied palate, it manifests a creamy texture as well as a crunchy acidity culminating in a wonderfully fresh finish.
Winemaker / Tasting Notes
The nose evokes powerful citrus fruit aromas that gradually give way to white florals & tropical fruit characters with further airing. On the palate, white blossom & guava fruit flavors are manifested leading to a dense & intense mid-palate punctuated by an explosion of citrus fruit flavors reminiscent of the same aromatic elements. The white floral elements re-emerge on its elegant mineral finish.
