Why We Love This Wine

Founded in 1930, Baron Philippe de Rothschild is based in Bordeaux. In addition to their Medoc vineyards, they also count many plots in California & Chile (where Escudo Rojo originates) where they combine the best of traditional personal experience and the best of advanced scientific wine making practices to transform the gifts of nature into works of art. Escudo Rojo is the Spanish translation of the German "Rote Schild" which means "Red Shield". The nose is so complex with notes of ripe pineapple, peach, mango, & toasty vanilla. The palate is dry exhibiting a lovely texture along with a great acidity. The oak characters manifest themselves distinctly on the palate showcasing wonderfully balanced fruit flavors. This is a beautiful wine with good aging potential.

Winemaker / Tasting Notes

The aromatic power of Chardonnay is immediately evident manifesting tropical fruit & yellow peach aromas along with gingerbread & toasted brioche scents with further airing. The palate is pleasantly full revealing pineapple & passionfruit flavors with a round & dense mid-palate displaying secondary notes of toasted almond, cumin, & cinnamon spice. The build up culminates in an attractively long finish with elegant touches of pineapple, toasted hazelnut, & mild spices.
