Founded in 1930, Baron Philippe de Rothschild is based in Bordeaux. In addition to their Medoc vineyards, they also count many plots in California & Chile (where Escudo Rojo originates) where they combine the best of traditional personal experience and the best of advanced scientific wine making practices to transform the gifts of nature into works of art. Escudo Rojo is the Spanish translation of the German "Rote Schild" which means "Red Shield". Reflecting a beautiful dark red robe, the nose reflects delicate aromas of red & black fruits, roasted coffee, & spices. On the palate, notes of red & black fruit slowly emerge against a backdrop of fine tannins. Spices & roasted coffee nuances add sparkle to its long & delicious finish.
Displaying a dense, bright, & deep ruby red color, the nose opens up with intense blackberry, black cherry, and wild strawberry aromas revealing toasted almond and roas notes with further airing. On the palate, it is powerful & generous with a richly smooth mid-palate revealing raspberry, blackberry, and wild bilberry flavors along with added underpinnings of mature tannins.
