Winemaker / Tasting Notes
With both this cuvée and the wonderful Rugiens-Hauts, Leroux is back in Pommard with a bang. The 2019 is a blend of Les Vaumuriens (high on the slope) and Les Cras (on the lower slope), both vineyards lying on the Volnay side of the village. Leroux notes the cooler, hillside fruit from Les Vaumuriens brings freshness and balance to the blend. This was crafted from 100% de-stemmed berries and raised with roughly 20% new oak. Jasper Morris writes for Inside Burgundy, "From Cras below and Vaumuriens above, destalked. Lively purple, ripe, but not too explosive, floral notes and fresh plums. Rich and ripe here with a certain generosity. While I wouldn’t want it to go further, the style of the rich raspberry fruit is very good."
