Why We Love This Wine

In the ownership of the same family since 1834, the Domaine Chandon de Briailles is currently owned by the Count & Countess Aymard-Claude de Nicolay & their children. Situated 4 kilometers north of Beaune in Cote d' Or, the domaine is in the northern area of Cote de Beaune in the famous Burgundian vineyard. The estate spans 13.7 hectares shared equally among the villages of Savigny-les-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses, and Aloxe-Corton. Vinified and aged in the purest Burgundian tradition, their wines express themselves with great freshness & finesse reflecting their terroir and "climat" of origin. Their wines are crafted as close as possible to their origins and are without artifice, generous, & well-constructed to gain added complexity over time. Reflecting ruby colored tones with hints of brandied cherry aromas and briar patch & bramble characters, this wine further reveals savory & gamey notes with the progression of age. The palate is opulent & powerful with exotic spice notes & powdery tannins finishing wonderfully with grace, elegance, & length. Enjoy this wine from to with Roast Rack of Lamb, Roast Beef with Mushroom Gravy, Prosciutto Wrapped Grilled Portobello Mushrooms, & Manchego Cheese.

Winemaker / Tasting Notes

This cuvee comes from 4 parcels which total 1.12 hectares, situated mid-slope & spread in homogenous fashion over the whole appellation, giving a nice typicity of Bressandres. The soils are deep and made up, in equal parts, of limestone & clay - giving the wine lovely balance & great length on the palate. It is a terroir that is very representative of the appellation Corton. The vines average 40 years in age and face eastward. In the 2018 vintage, the wine was made with 100% whole grape clusters. when tasted out of a barrel a couple of years ago, it was rather wound up with ripe fruit & a super mineral backbone. Year after year, the Bressandres has more density & body with black cherry & blackberry notes, a touch of licorice, and a generously supportive structure with a finish that lingers on the palate.
