One of the oldest & largest estates of Chateuneuf du Pape extending over 90 hectares of land around the castle, the vineyard of Chateau la Nerthe was born in the 14th century when vine culture began to spread across the area. Their terroir is characterized by loamy, sandy soils dotted with large pebbles for finesse & aromatic expression. The vineyard's presence near one of the few natural springs of Chateauneuf du Pape as well as the secluded, wooded areas here create the ideal microclimate of warm days & cool nights that imbue these white grapes with both natural freshness & a vibrant personality. Pale yellow in color with golden hints, the nose of this regal white evokes exotic mango & pineapple aromas with added vestiges of fresh pear. On the palate, it displays a fresh, mineral essence buoyed by a subtle richness and lingering fruit flavors. On the finish, we particularly appreciate how the citrus notes are masterfully balanced between both depth of flavor and a decidedly crisp & persistent acidity. This wine would make beautiful music with foie gras dishes and Spaghetti Vongole pasta.
Clos de Beauvenir is named after the ancient Tulle de Villefranche bastide. It is an old castle garden, protected from the wind by plane trees that also create some shade during the day - much appreciated by the Roussanne vines forming the major part of the planting. The Grenache Blanc is vinified and matured separately, bringing the sought after freshness & volume to this great white wine known for its elegance and lingering mineral allure.
