Why We Love This Wine
Cuatro Pasos is a wine made from 100% Mencia grapes indigenous to Spain produced by the Martin Codax Winery located in the Salnes Valley in Pontevedra Galicia. The grapes come from 80 year old vines from the 4 towns of Otejo, Hornija, Corullon, & Valtuille in the high sloping slate soils of the Bierzo Region. A pleasant wine with good acidity & well-integrated tannins, it reveals an intense garnet color with violet glints. On its' medium-bodied palate, black fruit flavors with added nuances of toasted oak & mineral hints emerge. Enjoy this with Lentil Soup, Small Game Birds, Red Meat Stews, Risottos, & Manchego Cheese.
Winemaker / Tasting Notes
The discovery of four bear paw prints in a magnificent mountain vineyard inspired the name of this fruit-forward wine typical of the Mencia grape varietal from which it is made. Since then, they actively worked on recovering the brown bear habitat as they are crucial to the eco-diversity & natural wealth of Bierzo which greatly influences the Mencia aromatic & flavor characters.
