Why We Love This Wine
Clos de Tart is located in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis at the heart of Burgundy's prestigious terroirs producing the very best wines of the Cote-d'Or. With its 7.53 hectares, Clos de Tart is the largest of the 5 Grand Cru Monopoles (indicating single ownership) in Burgundy. Custodian of a very rich & fascinating history spanning 9 centuries, the Clos de Tart vineyard has never been subdivided which is a very rare occurence in Burgundy. A unique treasure, the Estate has only had 4 owners throughout its colorful history: the Cistercian Nuns of Tart Abbey from 1141 to 1791; the Marey-Monge family from 1791 to 1932; the Mommessin family from 1932 to 2018; and the Pinault family since April 2018.
Winemaker / Tasting Notes
The Clos de Tart Grand Cru is a juicy, racy, & well-balanced wine displaying great power. Very fragrant on the nose, it reveals a wonderful bouquet of ripe red & black fruit with spicy notes and added floral hints. On the palate, its striking density & concentration is immediately evident underlined & ably complemented by delicate tannins & a wonderful crispness. Its finish is long & very complex with added mineral nuances.
