The 7th generation Domaine Trapet is one of the greatest estates of Gevrey-Chambertin, with superb holdings of 3 of the top Grand Crus in the village. While the family has been important Gevrey-Chambertin Vineyard owners since 1870, it was not until the 1960s that they began to bottle a majority of their production and offer them for sale directly to clients. In addition to their excellent holdings, the Trapets hold a unique place in Burgundian history being the 1st ones to graft vines during the phyloxerra epidemic thereby saving the vineyards of Burgundy. Today their vines are made with an emphasis on elegance, purity, & finesse. Trapet's 3 great Grand Crus, including the outstanding Domaine Trapet Pere et Fils, are all crafted to really highlight their underlying terroirs belonging to the top echelon of Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Crus in terms of aromatics, flavor complexity, expression of terroir, & ageing potential lending a singular elegance, grace, & purity to their wines. The bouquet is deep & promising, opening up with multifarious aromas of black cherries, cassis, bitter chocolate, savory grilled meats, dark soil nuances, & new oak hints. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied & deeply expressive with a powerful personality, a core of tree sap characters, fine precision, grippy & ripe tannins, and a long, chewy, & very well-balanced finish. Enjoy this from 2024 to 2065.
Bright ruby red in color, the nose opens up with myriad aromas of plums, currant, freshly roasted coffee, and cocoa. This is a graceful wine with fine grained tannins, very good depth, a poignant saline minerality, and noteworthy precision. With floral & herbal characters in equal measure, this fine wine with suave tannins finishes with a subtle sweetness & great persistence.
