Why We Love This Wine

The 7th generation Domaine Trapet is one of the greatest estates of Gevrey-Chambertin, with superb holdings of 3 of the top Grand Crus in the village. While the family has been important Gevrey-Chambertin Vineyard owners since 1870, it was not until the 1960s that they began to bottle a majority of their production and offer them for sale directly to clients. In addition to their excellent holdings, the Trapets hold a unique place in Burgundian history being the 1st ones to graft vines during the phyloxerra epidemic thereby saving the vineyards of Burgundy. Today their vines are made with an emphasis on elegance, purity, & finesse. Trapet's 3 great Grand Crus, including the outstanding Domaine Trapet Pere et Fils, are all crafted to really highlight their underlying terroirs belonging to the top echelon of Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Crus in terms of aromatics, flavor complexity, expression of terroir, & ageing potential lending a singular elegance, grace, & purity to their wines. An outstanding & top value wine that has nicely fleshed out with age exhibiting ripe fruit & savory aromas and great palate concentration of rich, dark fruit & gamey notes with mineral nuances, fine-grained tannins, & a polished mouthfeel. This wine finishes beautifully with a long & complex vanilla, oak, & mineral laced finish.

Winemaker / Tasting Notes

The 2016 Ostrea is a fine wine with a bouquet of dark cherries, grilled meats, & a fine mineral backbone with hints of bonfire ash buttressed by undertones of vanillin oak. On the palate, this full-bodied wine clearly expresses deep, dark fruit flavors with savory undertones, a rock solid core, well-integrated tannins, and impressive length in its well-balanced, mineral laced finish.
