Why We Love This Wine
In a historical estate dating back to the Medieval times & the Rennaisance Period lies the 5th Generation family owned Fattoria Selvapiana Vineyards. Francesco Guintini, the current owner, always believed in the value of the Rufina appelation & worked to increase the prestige of the area. He was the 1st Tuscan producer to make Riserva wines exclusively from Sangiovese with their flagship wine produced from a single vineyard. Its nearness to the Appenine mountain range influence the microclimate here with cooler summers & greater temperature variances between day & night. For this reason, grapes ripen slowly throughout the summer reaching a nice balance of all the aromatic compounds of the acin creating wines of fresh acidity, great elegance & fitness, silky tannins, & a long finish. Destined for long ageing, this wine opens with enticing scents of blue flowers, ripe dark-skinned berries, new leather, vanilla, & sandalwood. Elegant & full bodied, the palate delivers crushed raspberry, wild cherry, truffle, & chopped herb while intense liquorice notes linger on the finish. Fine grained tannins and bright acidity imbue this wine with impeccable balance.
