For over half a century, America's premiere grape growing state has enjoyed a reputation closely linked to Cabernet Sauvignon. It's the king of red wine grapes in America as well as France for the same reason of the amazing complexity that skilled winemakers are able to coax out of it when grown in optimal terroirs. The world's best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are grown in these respective region. At the forefront of this sits Freemark Abbey, a Sta. Helena Winery founded in 1886, with nearly 50 vintages worth of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon tucked away in its cellar. Freemark Abbey's signature portfolio of wines represents one of the most fully realized Cabernet programs in America. They are produced by a Winery whose contemporary rise to prominence from the 1960s to the present has coincided with that of California's fine wine industry. Sitting in one of Napa's most famous vineyard in Rutherford, this blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot spending 24 months in French oak is absolutely brilliant. Dense purple in color, this red blend boasts cola, vanilla, & cedarwood characters with abundant black currant & dark cherry notes and added touches of licorice & unsmoked cigar tobacco making for a classic Pauilliac-like wine style. This is a full-bodied wine right at its peak and will last, at least, for another 10 to 15 years and best paired with Prime Dry Aged Steak or Beef Bourgignon.
Deep ruby with intense dark fruit aromas of blackberry, plum, black cherry, & currant. These bright fruit aromas are mingled with sweet oak, dark chocolate, clove hints, cinnamon, & black pepper. Pronounced blackberry flavors evolve on a bed of balanced acidity and moderate tannins yielding a long & pleasant finish.
