Why We Love This Wine

For over half a century, America's premiere grape growing state has enjoyed a reputation closely linked to Cabernet Sauvignon. It's the king of red wine grapes in America as well as France for the same reason of the amazing complexity that skilled winemakers are able to coax out of it when grown in optimal terroirs. The world's best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are grown in these respective region. At the forefront of this sits Freemark Abbey, a Sta. Helena Winery founded in 1886, with nearly 50 vintages worth of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon tucked away in its cellar. Freemark Abbey's signature portfolio of wines represents one of the most fully realized Cabernet programs in America. They are produced by a Winery whose contemporary rise to prominence from the 1960s to the present has coincided with that of California's fine wine industry. Very deep garnet in color with purple hues, the 2014 Bosche Cabernet Sauvignon con sisting of a 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Merlot blend boasts an expressive & savory nose of black olives, roasted nuts, & sandalwood with a core of cassis, blackberry pie, and unsmoked cigars. Medium to full-bodied and laden with black fruits, baking spice, & earthy notes, it has a firm structure of grainy tannins and lovely freshness with a lengthy finish. Drink this beginning in 2018 over the next 20 to 25 years and pair it with Japanese Wagyu or Kobe Beef.

Winemaker / Tasting Notes

Very dark opaque ruby in color, the 2014 Bosche has a rich, dusty blackberry and cassis aroma with immense complexity & depth of character. Spice nuances of cinnamon, clove, aromatic cedarwood, Black pepper, & dark cocoa powder are wonderfully integrated with sweet oak spice. On the palate, it is powerful yet soft, voluptuous, & velvety smooth with a great depth of rich black fruit. The tannins are well-integrated with a balanced acidity, good body, and texture culminating in a very long & fruitful finish.
