For over half a century, America's premiere grape growing state has enjoyed a reputation closely linked to Cabernet Sauvignon. It's the king of red wine grapes in America as well as France for the same reason of the amazing complexity that skilled winemakers are able to coax out of it when grown in optimal terroirs. The world's best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are grown in these respective region. At the forefront of this sits Freemark Abbey, a Sta. Helena Winery founded in 1886, with nearly 50 vintages worth of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon tucked away in its cellar. Freemark Abbey's signature portfolio of wines represents one of the most fully realized Cabernet programs in America. They are produced by a Winery whose contemporary rise to prominence from the 1960s to the present has coincided with that of California's fine wine industry. An amazing 95 point wine, possibly Freemark Abbey's finest Sycamore ever. It is ripe & concentrated, in typical California Cabernet Sauvignon fashion. It dazzles with black currants, creme de cassis, and chocolate , yet it is firm & dry throughout. The tannin-acid balance is near perfect. This wine really impresses in sheer power & authority and will cellar well for a very long time. Drink this after 2018 and enjoy it with Wagyu Burgers & Prime Rib.
Very deep garnet colored, this 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon opens up with bold notes of crme de cassis, baked blackberries, boysenberries, and dried mulberries with faint whiffs of chocolate mint, underbrush, new leather, and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied, rich, & spicy, the palate features velvety tannins and prevalent freshness to carry the spices along through its long & satisfying finish
