On the banks of Nusiedler east of Austria in the wine region of Burgenland, dynamic couple Gernot & Heike Heinrich own and operate the Heinrich vineyards that produce the most coveted red wines in all of Austria. All their wines are hand harvested & spontaneously fermented in wild yeast wherein the wines are left with the skins for several weeks and further time is given them to mature & shape the aromas & flavors of the wine through further ageing in oak barrels for 7 to 8 months. Zweigelt consists of half of their total production in the flat, humus rich plots in Heideboden, the gravelly sets of Pardorfer Platte, & the limestone & schist slopes of Leithaberg. The result is wines with fruity expressions reminiscent of cherry, cranberry, & even lingonberry with notes of tea and mild spices. Wonderfully elegant, this deep colored red with fresh & pristine black cherry, black berry, & floral aromas with hints of pepper mill spice, liquorice, & hibiscus and trace tinges of woodsmoke with faint mineral elements. Juicy on the palate with cherry jam & soft tobacco hints, this wine boasts a vivid acidity & length with fresh dark berry fruit laced tannins and a plum finish. You can't go wrong pairing this fine wine with Braised Meat & vegetables with egg noodles or potatoes.
Providing unbridled drinking pleasure, the 2015 Blaufrankisch dances playfully back and forth between the refreshing red berried fruitiness of homemade cranberry, cherry, and lingonberry jelly and the piquant spice of an herb garden - not to mention the pepper mill. The delineated compact body swings in cophasal harmony with fine-grained, soft tannin and a delicate, animating acid nerve. A proud and elegant representative of its pedigree that cheerfully brings just the right doses of concentration and body in the glass without a hint of heaviness.
