On the banks of Nusiedler east of Austria in the wine region of Burgenland, dynamic couple Gernot & Heike Heinrich own and operate the Heinrich vineyards the produce the most coveted red wines in all of Austria. All their wines are hand harvested & spontaneously fermented in wild yeast wheren the wines are left with the skins for several weeks and further time is given them to mature & shape the aromas & flavors of the wine through further ageing in oak barrels for 7 to 8 months. Zweigelt consists of half of their total production in the flat, humus rich plots in Heideboden, the gravelly sets of Pardorfer Platte, & the limestone & schist slopes of Leithaberg. The result is wines with fruity expressions reminiscent of cherry, cranberry, & even lingonberry with notes of tea and mild spices. Savory & classic with full fruit juiciness, this wine opens up with attractive notes of ripe red & black cherry aromas with a fleshy, medium bodied palate of cherries, herbs, & cinnamon notes complemented perfectly by frim & fine boned tannins. This wine will absolutely sing when paired with Roast Pork in Apple Sauce, Porkchop Au Jus with Wild Mushrooms, and Hungarian Ghoulash.
This Zweigelt represents the protected comfort of home and is on the one hand soothing and on the other, a thoroughly honest documentation of origin and year. The vines of 2016 bequeathed the extraordinary fineness of a diamond cut. In a circle dance of aromas, all varieties of cherry from morello to wild are endowed three-dimensional depth through fine-grained, yet catchy tannins. Despite all finesse and sheer, cool elegance, one attribute remains which the heart of this Zweigelt sings: pure juiciness. To allow this mouthwatering juiciness to flow unhindered, serve best at 15-16 deg C (59-61 deg F).
