The name Greywacke of Kevin Judd, founding winemaker of Cloudy Bay vineyards, was named in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of their 1st vineyard located in Rapaura. Their quality-focused winemaking sources fruit from mature vineyards in the Central Wairau Plains & the Southern Valley that are cultivated using yield restricted & intense canopy management techniques to ensure optimal concentration of grape aromas & flavors. The Greywacke portfolio consists mainly of Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Noir with some limited-edition releases of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, & Gewurtztraminer. Showcasing brightly fragrant lemon-lime citrus notes with Granny Smith Apples, orange blossoms, and a tarragon-like herbal complexity. Off-dry in style with a balance of bright, natural acidity and a creamy palate with a touch of sweetness that finishes with a delicious citrus tang.
Fabulously expressive on the nose with lemon zest, lime sorbet, apple, & white floral notes, this Riesling is pristine & poised possessing a promise to evolve & age graciously.
