Country of Origin: Italy
Type: Red wine
Grape variety: Sangiovese 80%, Merlot 20%
Why we love this wine:
Vibrant Silver-awarded Sangiovese- Merlot blend from a top Italian wine estate. This wine reveals mixed flavours of mocha, cedar, and black cherry. We highly suggest you try this with grilled meat and aged cheese.
Winemaker / tasting notes:
A great food-friendly Tuscan red made from Sangiovese and softened with the addition of 20% Merlot -- – a subtle balance between the austerity of traditional Sangiovese and the roundness of Merlot, perfectly adapted to the Maremma.
The vineyards for this wine are 900-1350 feet above sea level with West – Southwest exposure. The grapes are vinified separately with a 10 day maceration that includes malolactic fermentation, then matured in French barrique for 10 months, blended and rested for six additional months in stainless steel containers before bottling.
Ten months in oak adds some spicy complexity. This wine opens with a unique blackberry like bouquet with scents of licorice blended in. On the palate, it’s is medium bodied, smooth and soft, with juicy black current flavors nicely integrated tobacco and cedar. The finish is quite dry with noticeable tannins that are nicely extended. Drink now and over the next 4 years.
