The Majella Estate has gone through a long period of transformation from primarily a pastural land for sheep starting in the 1960s, a grape grower for the Wynn's Coonawarra Estate in the 1980s & early 1990s, and finally establishing their own winery in 1996 producing their 1st crackerjack vintage in 1999 under the auspices of Chief Winemaker Bruce Gregory. The Estate produces primarily Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, & Riesling varietals. The Musician is a classic Australian blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Shiraz sourced from the world famous red soils of Coonawarra. Revealing a deep ruby colored robe with garnet tinges, the nose evokes an attractively complex bouquet of perfumed dark berry fruits with vestiges of mint & eucalyptus aromas. On the palate, juicy mulberry fruit, black currant, & herbaceous flavors are revealed buttressed by soft & supple tannins. This would make for a great pairing with lamb & beef dishes.
Designed to be light & elegant, this wine spends time in oak although it is meant to manifest minimal oak flavor. Displaying good color, fragrance, texture, & drinkability, the flavors flow well & follow an even keel. Minty black currant is the essential core flavor profile with added red currant character nuances.
