The Mitolo family migrated to Australia bringing their viticultural ancestry and an ethos belonging to the Abruzzo region - "forte e genile" or strong & gentle. Frank Mitolo eventually started making wines but just for family & friends. In 1999, Frank got together with winemaker Ben Glaetzer fashioning a dream of making the ultimate expression of Mclaren Vale's rich provenance of soils encapsulated in 6 words: individuality, integrity, quality, purity, elegance, & power. With 17 wines now in their range, the winery works closely with its Italian immigrant growers, the Loprestis, who have developed an affinity for the land producing optimal quality fruit. The depth of flavor garnered from the heavy clay soils buoyed by freshness from the afternoon sea breezes is the essence of Mitolo. They take a hands off approach in wine development using cool fermentation to retain purity and utilizing a range of barrel coopers to generate complexity while respecting & enhancing the fruit. Bright ruby nose with a vivid purple rim, this elegant wine opens up with clean, high toned ripe blood plum & blackberry fruit with more savory undertones of black olive & oak char. On the palate, ripe blood plum & blackberry notes roll effortlessly off the palate with added touches of coffee & mocha. Medium to full-bodied, it boasts a fresh acidity with supple & finely textured tannins with nuanced earth notes. Pair this with a Braised Beef Pappardele Pasta.
An upfront & approachable Mclaren Vale Shiraz with pure fruit flavors & excellent structural depth.
