Why We Love This Wine

The name Ribbonwood comes from the Ribbonwood Trees, New Zealand's tallest native deciduous species, which grow around the Ribbonwood Estate Vineyards in Renwick. With their commitment to sustainability, they have planted more than 1,000 native shrubs and trees to enhance biodiversity and improve wastewater management. Produced in a modern style, Ribbonwood specializes in making wines from fruit from mature to old vines in Marlborough's Wairau Valley. The Sauvignon Blanc vines in the original Ribbonwood Block near Renwick are planted in an unusual East-West direction, providing shade on the south side of the rows thereby enhancing the gooseberry aromatics of the fruit. This wine is lush & rounded on the palate with dark & summer fruit compote flavors running parallel to smoky bacon, dried herb, & savory notes. A charming wine with a firm intensity & tannin structure, nuanced oak & dark chocolate flavors linger on the finish.
