A genuine Trappist ale, this is made by the monks in the secluded Rochefort Abbey, or Abbey of Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy. The activity of brewing in the Abbey goes back to medieval times, if not earlier, and it is the main income source. However, the monks belong to the Cistercians of strict observance, so they do not allow visitors. Fortunately you can buy their products elsewhere and this one is especially worth finding - a dark rich colour and taste that can match any red wine for depth of character and full flavor.
