From family estate vineyards since 1972, the historic Spottswoode Estate provides the ideal setting for crafting elegant, well-balanced, and age-worthy wines that capture the character of the vintages and the complexity of their legendary estate. Established in 1882, Spottswoode Estate is distinguished by its pre-prohibition Victorian home christened by Albert Spotts in 1910, acquired by Mary & Jack Novak in 1972, & releasing their 1st Cabernet Sauvignon vintage in 1982. Made from a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, & 4% Petit Verdot, this deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a nose of intense blackberry, dark cherry, and black currant aromas with added hints of cinnamon, sage spice, star anise, & tobacco leaf with faint traces of mineral elements. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, flavors of sweet red cherry, red plum, crunchy black fruit, and florals with added vestiges of mint imbue this wine with a striking freshness that perfectly complements its mid-weight structure. This wine is very refined displaying fantastic energy, purity, & poise with underpinnings of firm, fine grained yet silky tannins & complex depth culminating in a long & spicy finish. Enjoy this wine now through 2040 with a Flame Grilled Ribeye Steak, Ground Beef Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms, and Wagyu Burgers..
Youthful energy & concentration take centerstage for the 2017 Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Quintessential notes of brambly dark & blue fruit characters as well as mineral graphite notes complement warm oak spices with emergent hints of plum, celery seed, & cocoa powder. A weighty & compelling core leads to a layered depth that will empower this wine to continue to evolve & flourish throughout its destined extended life.
