Why We Love This Wine

Tyrell's Winery traces its roots to 1858 when Edward Tyrell, a British immigrant, took up a selection of 320 acres of prime Hunter Valley land - one of the last available properties in this limestone rich territory abutting the Brokenback range. The Winery was completed in 1863 and Tyrell's 1st vintage came out the following year. Tyrell's staunchly advocates sustainable farming through their established Environmental Management System which has achieved a 62% reduction in Total Greenhouse Gas Emissions since 2009. Today, Tyrell's premium vineyards extend from their historic home in Hunter Valley to other distinguished grape growing regions in Australia including Heathcote in Victoria where they have identified seven rare vineyard blocks more than 100 years old. A genuine expression of the Hunter Valley terroir, this Shiraz was fermented in open topped Vats and aged in French oak casks resulting lovely heady aromatics showcasing high-toned red berries, florals, & licorice. On the palate, its prickly acidity, juicy fruit characters, and soft yet taut & savory tannins engage in a harmoniously synchronized dance that culminates in a long, saline finish.

Winemaker / Tasting Notes

Vibrant purple colour, with a lifted nose showing red fruits and some spice. The palate has wonderful concentration and depth yet still lively and fresh. The tannins are expansive yet remain soft and the acidity adds to the wines complexity. A wonderful example of the modern, medium bodied Hunter Valley Shiraz.
