Why We Love This Wine

Verite's Master Winemaker Pierre Seillan has spent over 5 decades dedicated to crafting world class wines. Jess Jackson, of the Kendall Jackson Empire, was already the founder of one of the most successful family owned wine companies when they met in France in the 1990s. Driven by a passion to produce world class wine from California's best vineyards, a kinship developed between the Jackson family in California and the Seillan family in Bordeaux. A visit by Pierre to California in 1997 convinced him to pursue this dream and thus, Verite was born. Pierre has crafted the wines of Verite since 1998. Under his leadership, Helene Seillan has stepped into the role of assistant winemaker at the estate, splitting time between California and the Seillan Family Estate in St. Emillon, to usher in the next generation. Pierre's winemaking philosophy is centered around "la droit du sol" or "the right of the soil", meaning the wines should express the unfettered voice of the terroir. Showing loads of graphite, cedarwood, charcoal, creme de cassis, & forest floor characters, this is an age-worthy wine with an ageing potential of 50 years or more. It tastes like a 1st growth Pauillac and possesses an amazing amount of complexity & richness.

Winemaker / Tasting Notes

The nose is rich, complex, & creamy dominated by fruitwith a very discreet nose of oak. The wine shows itself on the palate without restraint and expresses its complexity, power, delight, and richness with notes of ripe & round black fruits such as cassis & black cherry. The finish is pronounced by the Cabernet Sauvignon similar to a grand Pauillac. This La Joie is a grandiose wine in an excellent vintage that will age well for 30 years or more.
