Founded in 1961 when 21 year old George Fistonich leased 5 acres of land in Mangere Auckland, New Zealand producing the 1st vintage of Villa Maria from grapes harvested from his block in 1962. Today, Villa Maria grows 28 different grape varieties and exports wine to over 60 countries worldwide. As a firm advocate of sustainable farming, they take conscious steps towards zero waste, reducing carbon emissions, & transitioning their vineyards to produce organic wines. The cool climate Awatere aromas of lemongrass, jalapeno peppers, & fresh herbs initially greet your nose followed by ripe citrus & tropical fruit character manifestations. This is an intense Sauvignon Blanc alive with gooseberry, passionfruit, & fresh citrus flavors. This is a perfect aperitif wine that would likewise partner well with a variety of Salads and lightly seasoned fish dishes.
