Robert Mondavi had the vision to create fine Napa Valley wines. Establishing the Robert Mondavi Winery in 1966 in Kalon Vineyard, the heart of Napa Valley, he began his portfolio of fine wines. After the success of his initial winery, Robert Mondavi established Woodbridge Winery in Lodi, California in 1979. Having grown up in the area, he was confident in the region's ability to make fruit-forward wines that are suited to everyday drinking. He helped build the Napa Valley wine scene through collaborations with other winemaking icons such as Baron Philippe de Rothschild to create brands like Opus One. Mondavi was the first winemaker to be Napa Green Certified and the first to receive an Innovator Award from California’s Environmental Protection Agency.
