Why We Love This Wine

Alvaro Palacios is undoubtedly one of the most important & influential winemakers in Spain who has emerged after he cut his teeth initially in the legendary Chateau Petrus where he also developed his winemaking philosophy. His pioneering efforts in Priorat have secured the region's reputation for being able to produce fine wines of profound character & quality. Descendientes de J. Palacios is a leading producer of red wines from the Mencia grape in the Bierzo region of northwest Spain. It was founded in 1998 as a collaboration between Alvaro Palacios & his nephew Ricardo Perez Palacios bringing greater prominence to the Bierzo Region, a hilly area where the Palacios vineyards are located on steep hillsides with old bush vines. Made from predominantly Mencia indigenous Spanish grapes, this wonderful wine displays a deep purple color with complex red berry jam, raspberry, floral, & liquorice characters with added touches of cigar box, minerals, & spice. This is a powerful & elegant wine boasting a very long finish on the palate. Drink this now until 2026 with Braised Beef Cheek with Roasted Red Beets & Cocoa Powder.

Winemaker / Tasting Notes

A dark black cherry in color, the nose is very fruity evoking added floral characters. On the palate, it displays great complexity & character with the lifted freshness of dark fruits showing in its excellent length & depth.
