Why We Love This Wine
Deep in the Waihopai Valley in New Zealand, Spy Valley Vineyards was established in the 1990s in a land previously considered too dry & infertile for wine. A pioneer in the region & now considered one of New Zealand's most successful family run wineries, the Johnsons are simply farmers at heart nurturing soil & vine in a sustainable fashion to cultivate the complexities in their wines that now count 8 varietals exported to 35 countries worldwide. Aromas of vibrant red fruits, cocoa powder, & dried spice lead to a supple, long, & red berry fruit focused palate with a fine grained tannin structure and a hint of toasty oak. This wine will cellar well up to 7 years from harvest.
Winemaker / Tasting Notes
A savory & youthful wine with redolent aromas of sweet fruits and flavors of plum & spice. It offers excellent complexity with a harmony of aromas, flavors, & textures culminating in a long finish.
