Why We Love This Wine

This is Mortet's "Super Gevrey" made from an outstanding clutch of 5 brilliantly placed terroirs (some with vines more than 70 years old) that Denis Mortet deliberately chose for the quality of the vines & the terroir. The 5 terroirs in question here are the Champ, En Deree, Velle, Combes du Dessus, and En Motrot all from the northern side of Gevrey-Chambertin. This is an exceptional wine that would have no problem passing Premier Cru status in a blind taste test. This classy red bursts with expressive aromas of black cherry fruit, plums, orange rind, & licorice with subtle tar characters framed by a deft touch of stylish new oak. On the palate, it is charming & supple with a succulent & mouthwatering acidity, ripe & powdery tannins, and good depth at its core. This wine turns more muscular as the tannins conspicuously emerge in its long, toasty finish. Drink this now until 2027.

Winemaker / Tasting Notes

These 5 vine plots are situated on the northern slope of Gevrey-Chambertin called the Coteau de Brochon. Thanks to the small, concentrated berries produced by these plots of "Vielles Vignes" or old vines, we find here all the richness & fruitiness of a Gevrey-Chambertin: its velvety smooth tannins, its superb freshness, & its substantial length on the palate.
