Why We Love This Wine

Sitting at the highest elevation at Hirsch, the Raschen Ridge is where their marine, riverine, & continental climates meet merging heat & coolness, moisture & dryness, uplift & erosion. Henry Raschen was a painter of the Old American West who lived on this ranch that is now Hirsch vineyards. Old timers called their ranch the "Raschen Place" where Henry's house stood until 1954 long after his passing. Pale to medium ruby in color, the nose of this complex Pinot opens up with tar & damp earth characters giving way to strawberry, blueberry, & violet aromas with faint nuances of truffles, caramel, tree bark, & eucalyptus hints. The palate is medium-bodied with layers of dark, earthy fruits and chewy tannins that give way to more smoky & savory nuances at the finish. It is already great drinking now but it will be even better from 2023 onwards paired with Crispy Duck Pancakes, Grilled Quail, & Charsiu Pork.

Winemaker / Tasting Notes

Made from the highest elevation vineyards at Hirsch, the 2018 Raschen Ridge Estate Pinot Noir is a wine of electric, kinetic expressiveness. Highly perfumed with red fruit & earth tones, the palate shows wonderful structure & generosity. Sexy & serious, drinkable & age-worthy, the Raschen Ridge is a wine for both the hedonist & the collector.
