Why We Love This Wine
The result of a partnership between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild to create a Bordeaux style blend in Napa Valley. The Overture is a blend from predominantly their 2016 vintage with some of the 2014 & 2015 vintages added in. This is a supple Bordeaux style blend showcasing ripe berry fruits with accents of smoky cedarwood & white pepper spice. It has a firmly structured tannic profile with a silky texture & a mouthwatering acid finish.
Winemaker / Tasting Notes
Only recently made available as a commercial release, Overture has been the 2nd wine of Opus since 1993 - following in the tradition of the great Bordeaux estates. Made exactly like Opus One and sourced from the same estate vineyards, the Overture is a classic Bordeaux blend with Cabernet Sauvignon making up around 70% of the total. The wines of Opus One have never been stronger. The 2018 Overture is a multi-vintage blend created from 3 different vintages where the last 5 vintages in Napa from 2018 have all been excellent. A vibrant garnet in color, this wine reveals expressive aromas of fresh red fruit. On the palate, flavors of bright cherry & red currant emerge with underpinnings of earth, ground cocoa, cedar, & vanilla characters. Extended barrel aging gives this wine an elegant texture accented by round tannins & a soft mouthfeel.
