Why We Love This Wine
Deep in the Waihopai Valley in New Zealand, Spy Valley Vineyards was established in the 1990s in a land previously considered too dry & infertile for wine. A pioneer in the region & now considered one of New Zealand's most successful family run wineries, the Johnsons are simply farmers at heart nurturing soil & vine in a sustainable fashion to cultivate the complexities in their wines that now count 8 varietals exported to 35 countries worldwide. Multi-faceted and complex aromas with notes of ginger, nectarine, seashell with anise, nougat, & subtle spices pervade this lovely Riesling. Dry with a flavor balance revealing a distinct minerality and powerful underlying fruit, lemon pith, white pepper, & spice culminating in a clean & vibrant palate cleansing finish. This wine is built to age gracefully for extended cellaring.
Winemaker / Tasting Notes
A dry & intense wine with aromas of ginger loaf, apricots, figs, & citrus fruits and pronounced lemon curd & fruit accented by mild spice hints & a rich yeasty influence on the palate leading to a crisp lime finish.
