Why We Love This Wine
Tenuta Il Poggione covers a total area of 530 hectares of which 140 hectares are planted with vines, 50 hectares with olive trees, & the rest are dedicated to grain fields, forest, & livestock. Thanks to its prominent position at an altitude between 150 and 450 meters above sea level, the vineyards (including Vigna Paganelli planted in 1964) benefit from their proximity to Mount Arriata and the Tyrrhenian Sea. This large altitude gap, together with the age of the vineyards, promotes easier harvests & allows the production of structured wines with long ageing potential regardless of weather conditions. Intense ruby red in color, this wine exudes a fruity bouquet with red berry notes. Very well-structured yet soft, it has a long lasting flavor with smooth, velvety tannins. Pair this with Pasta with Meat Sauce, Roasted & Grilled Meats, & Medium Strength Cheeses.
Winemaker / Tasting Notes
A medium bodied red exuding focus & precision, it showcases dried cherry & orange peel characters leading to a tangy finish
