Why We Love This Wine

The name Greywacke of Kevin Judd, founding winemaker of Cloudy Bay vineyards, was named in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of their 1st vineyard located in Rapaura. Their quality focused winemaking sources fruit from mature vineyards in the Central Wairau Plains & the Southern Valley that are cultivated using yield restricted & intense canopy management techniques to ensure optimal concentration of grape aromas & flavors. The Greywacke portfolio consists mainly of Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Noir with some limited edition releases of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, & Gewurtztraminer. A seductively rich & exotic combination of blackberries, blueberries, & sweet black plums intermingled with roasted chestnuts, cloves, & dark tobacco with hints of lavender, rose petal, & delicate smoke. It has a generous palate with ripe fruit sweetness, fine tannins, and a delicious spicy finish.

A fragrant & fruit packed wine that opens up with a slightly earthy bouquet buttressed by impressively rich & concentrated brambleberry & black cherry aromas & flavors. This is a youthful & powerful red with a long & finely textured finish.
