The Majella Estate has gone through a long period of transformation from primarily a pastural land for sheep starting in the 1960s, a grape grower for the Wynn's Coonawarra Estate in the 1980s & early 1990s, and finally establishing their own winery in 1996 producing their 1st crackerjack vintage in 1999 under the auspices of Chief Winemaker Bruce Gregory. The Estate produces primarily Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, & Riesling varietals. This is a powerful & imposing Cabernet manifesting a robust tannic intensity with boysenberry & black currant fruit flavors with added eucalyptus nuances barging into dusty, tobacco infused tannins. This is a vigorous, potent, & glorious wine whose age-worthiness is fairly evident.
Displaying a robe of dark purple to magenta-purple colors with bright ruby hues around the rim, the nose opens up with dark & intense black fruit aromas with hints of classic Majella mint. On its classy palate, powerfull mouth-filling flavors of varietal fruit are revealed together with well-defined tannins through to its long finish.
