Stags’ Leap is one of California’s earliest wine estates, producing quality wines since 1893 under the Chase family. Its name is said to be attributed to a Wappo legend in which a stag leaps away from hunters, never submitting. The mountains behind the property became known as the Stags’ Leap Palisade, one of the most prominent geographical features in the area. Erosion from these palisades has contributed to the volcanic soil found in the vineyards, a key factor in Stags’ Leap’s luscious wines.

Their signature wine is the Petite Sirah, a refined red with black and blueberry fruit, pepper spice, and floral notes. The Cabernet Sauvignon is also a long-time favorite: deep and dense with notes of dark plum, blackberry, vanilla, cinnamon spice, and thanks to oak aging hints of cocoa nib and coffee for a savory but elegant finish.
